Plans for a major retail development at the Mall in Armagh will be approved by Planning Service when officials meet with Armagh City and District Council on July 7.
Last month we reported that two applications relating to the proposed development had been readvertised.
Next to the historic Mall in the city, the development site consists of part of the multi-storey car park, adjacent land towards McCrum’s Court and the existing Department of Agriculture and Rural Development building.
This important city centre site was identified as part of the Armagh City Masterplan published in May 2009.
The application involves the demolition of the old Divisional Veterinary Office on the Mall.
The toilet block at McCrum’s Court will also be removed.
Last June, Social Development Minister McCausland appointed Drumragh Property Investments Ltd as the preferred developer to redevelop this key city centre site.
A planning application was lodged at that time but ran in to some difficulties.
The approval about to be given allows for the demolition of the DVO Building, storage unit and surrounding wall to allow for a new retail unit and car parking. The public toilets will be removed to allow for a new retail unit and new public toilets.
The Mall Shopping Centre will see a major extension to the existing premises with additional units and extension to existing car park.
