Anti-social behaviour in Keady continues to give residents a cause for for genuine concern.
With Hallowe’en just over a week away and a family festival planned for the night residents are being urged to come out and support the event – and not the vandals win.
Keady SDLP Councillor Thomas O’Hanlon has met with the PSNI, Council and SELB Youth Service to discuss ongoing anti-social problem in the area.
Speaking after meeting the PSNI Councillor O’Hanlon said: “The people of Keady and the surrounding areas are fed up with it.
“In recent weeks the council have placed temporary toilets in the square and they have been wrecked and vandalised every weekend since.”
He added: “I have been inundated with calls from local residents and traders who are sick of this behaviour.
“In fact many of the young people are angry as the finger of blame is being pointed at all young people and this is not fair. Many of those involved have barely left Primary School and it’s no way for them to set out in life.
“People locally are genuinely concerned what Halloween will bring and we discussed this at our meetings. The community have planned a family festival and this can and will be a showcase event for Keady. I would urge the community to come out and support this event and not let the trouble makers win the day.”
The PSNI, Council and the SELB Youth Service will continue to work in the town in the run up to Halloween and beyond.
Cllr O’Hanlon added: “I hope that the visible presence of the Community Neighbourhood Policing Team on the ground will reassure the community locally, of all ages, that work is being done to stamp out this antisocial and anti community activity.”
