Police in Armagh are appealing for information following three incidents where gates were removed or left open at fields occupied by cattle.
Some time overnight between Wednesday, 28 May and Thursday, 29 May, three gates at a field on Ballyards Road, Armagh, were opened. The gates and an electric fence were damaged and a number of cattle got out of the field.
In another incident chains were tied to gates at two fields on Farnaloy Road, Madden and removed. Fortunately, in this incident, cattle did not escape.
Con Megarry, Armagh Response, said: “It is difficult to understand the mindset of anyone who would carry out damage like this. Not only are they causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage and untold disruption to owners, who have to find the time and finance to repair damages, round up cattle and ensure their animals are secure, but they are also frightening cattle and running the risk of someone being badly hurt or worse when these animals end up on the road.
“I am appealing to anyone who has information in relation to this incident to contact us in Armagh. I am also asking all residents in rural areas to contact us immediately if they notice something suspicous or unusual in their local area, whether that is an unfamiliar vehicle or something that simply doesn’t feel right.
“We can be contacted on the 101 non-emergency number.”
