‘Disgraceful’ youth attacks in Keady Glen spark calls for immediate end to intimidation

Keady Glen

A series of “disgraceful” antisocial incidents in Keady Glen have left residents frightened and intimidated.

Reports have emerged of groups of young people insulting, threatening and allegedly attacking people in The Glen – just off the main street – prompting fresh calls for an immediate end to the behaviour.

Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Boylan said the conduct was “causing real fear and distress for local residents and won’t be tolerated”.

“Everyone has the right to feel safe in their own community and to live free from harassment and intimidation,” he said.

“There is absolutely no justification for this criminality.

“I urge parents to know where their children are and to speak with them about their behaviour before someone is seriously hurt. We all have a shared responsibility to support one another and protect our community.”

Mr Boylan confirmed he has raised the matter with the PSNI and other agencies.

“I have raised these incidents with the police and I will continue working with all relevant agencies to put an end to this antisocial behaviour and ensure our communities and shared spaces are kept safe for all,” he added.

Meanwhile, Sinn Féin Councillor Ashley Mallon has strongly condemned those responsible for the vandalism and break-in at the Old Mill, within the vicinity of The Glen.

Councillor Mallon said: “Those responsible have shown complete contempt for our community, for local heritage and for the safety of local residents.

“This kind of mindless thuggery has no place in Keady and will be met with anger by the wider community.

“I have reported this incident to the police and the council.

“Sinn Féin will continue working with all relevant agencies to stamp out this criminal behaviour, secure the site and protect our community from further incidents.”
