The abandonment of a dog to starve and die in Keady has been branded as “inhumane, cruel and despicable”.
The animal was tied up and left to die at the side of the Castleblayney Road near the entrance to Clay Lake.
It was found dead by a father who was out walking with his young children.
The discovery was reported to local SDLP Councillor Thomas O’Hanlon, who asked the question: “What sort of scumbag would do this to a poor dog?”
He continued: “The dog seems to have been ill treated for some time, and then the owner just tied it to a gate and left it to die. With recent warm weather it must have been horrendous for the poor animal.
“The father and his young children were distraught at the sight of this, even the children know this is not how you treat an animal.”
Councillor O’Hanlon has referred the matter to ABC Council’s Environmental Health Department and efforts are being made to establish if the owner can be traced.
“I can’t get the poor defenceless animal out of my head, and would love to have seen the so-called owner tied up at that gate instead,” he continued.
“I would appeal to anyone who seen the dog being tied up, or recognises the poor thing to come forward so the culprit can be held accountable for their actions.”
