A Keady-based charitable organisation is set to expand its services thanks to the National Lottery Community Fund “Strengthening Communities”.
Don’t Box Me In Ltd, (DBMIL) a charitable organisation based in Keady, who eighteen months ago sought support from the media, including Armagh I, to raise awareness of the pressure on small community groups to keep going due to limited funding, is delighted to receive funding from the Community Fund for the next three years.
As the Project strengthened, pressure grew from young people and their families to expand DBMIL services.
Children In Need funding enabled them to provide workshops two evenings per week. However, the National Lottery Community Fund “Strengthening Communities Funding” will now enable the project to provide after school activities, training opportunities and drop-in evening workshops.
Don’t Box Me In offer a place of sanctuary to young people aged eight to twenty-five who struggle to engage in mainstream activities due to challenges including disability, cultural differences, experiences within the care system, or involvement in antisocial behaviour.
Through peer lead groups, young people take part in drama, visual art, music and movement or multimedia workshops, to explore different ways of communicating, to learn skills in resilience and to promote personal development, tolerance and understanding of others.
The project will bring young people from a variety of backgrounds and abilities together to explore their feelings, and the impact on their physical and emotional well-being. This would not have happened if it were not for the support of the National Lottery Community Fund.
DBMIL are now seeking to recruit a Youth and Community Development Worker to take the lead on making their dream of an all-inclusive, developmental, fun and safe environment.
