A Keady man who assaulted his partner and damaged a caravan has been sentenced to three months in prison.
In sentencing the 30-year-old, the district judge commented: “This is clearly very serious when you consider the outline of the facts, particularly an assault in a domestic setting.”
Dylan Power, of Keady Road, pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal damage, common assault and possession of Class C at Armagh Magistrates’ Court, sitting at Newry, on Tuesday via videolink from Maghaberry.
Prosecution outlined that on May 23, at 6.30pm, police received a report of a domestic assault at an address on Keady Road, Keady.
Upon arrival, police activated their bodyworn cameras and recorded an account from the injured party.
She stated that her partner, the defendant, had pulled her by the hair off a sofa on to the floor of her caravan.
The injured party claimed that Power then leaned on her back before kicking her to the side of the face. She then managed to run from the caravan towards the main house.
She also reported to police that damage had been caused to the caravan, the extent of which was also caught on bodyworn footage.
Officers later located Power and he was arrested and taken to a police station, where he denied the allegations during interview.
Defence barrister Scott McWhinney stated: “There was no glory covering Mr Power…he comes before the court with a very limited record, albeit relevant.
“This is a young man who lost the run of himself and acted abominably. He is a working man and he has spent over 25 days in custody.”
District Judge Bernie Kelly said: “This is clearly very serious when you consider the outline of the facts, particularly an assault in a domestic setting.
“However, I do note that he has been in custody for 25 days and a presentence report would mean he would spend even longer in custody…that would take him beyond what is an appropriate sentence.”
Power was sentenced to a total of three months in prison for the offences before the court.
