The latest in a series of meetings aimed at capitalising on the tourism potential at Carrickatuke Mountain has been described as “very positive and encouraging”.
The Friends of Sliabh Fuait met representatives of Forestry Service on site to discuss a wide range of issues on Tuesday.
Discussions took place in relation to problematic areas, such as road access, and how to counter illegal dumping and eradicate anti-social behaviour.
The meeting was led by Friends Chairperson, BrĂ³na Haughey.
Foremost on the agenda was the development of tourist facilities on Carrickatuke.
Ms Haughey and those present were satisfied with progress being made.
She said: “We are very pleased with the supportive response from the Forestry Service and sincerely thank them for meeting us.
“Our next step is to meet again with council representatives and bring forward a proposal that would see Carrickatuke developed and promoted as part of the wider tourism trail of facilities that already exists in the partnership between council and the Forestry with, for example, Darkley Forest and Gosford.
“These are positive first steps in the process of taking back the Carrick and we will keep everyone posted.”
