ANOTHER full yard of stock came under the hammer at the Fane Valley Livestock sale in Newtownhamilton on Saturday. With 350 cattle on offer there was a keen demand for quality stock in all sections.
The heifer ring again attracted the biggest entry with quality lots selling to £1,480 paid for a Limousin at 730 kgs. Other Limousins sold to £945 for 480 kgs, £830 for 400 kgs, £820 for 350 kgs and £810 for 380 kgs ( paid twice). Charolais heifers sold to £1,070 for 520 kgs, £940 for 440 kgs, £900 for 440 kgs, £ 850 for 390 kgs, £840 for 360 kgs, £745 for 330 kgs and £730 for 320 kgs. Best of the Simmental heifers sold at £1,030 for 560 kgs, £1,020 for 580 kgs and £945 for 510 kgs.
Weanling calves sold to £1,145 paid for a Limousin at 560 kgs with similar animals to £935 for 440 kgs and £895 for 370 kgs. Charolais calves in this section sold to £980 for 450 kgs, £840 for 360 kgs and £805 for 330 kgs with lightweights to £575 for 160 kgs. Belgian Blue weanlings sold to £995 for 550 kgs.
A good entry of steers sold to £1,045 for a blonde with Limousins to £1,030 for 550 kgs, £920 for 510 kgs and £910 for 450 kgs. Charolais sold to £1,010 for 520 kgs and £930 for 480 kgs while Simmental bullocks sold to £945 for 450 kgs.
Breeding stock sold to £1,440 for a Charolais cow near note while cow/calf units sold to £1,400 for a Limousin cow with bull calf at foot.
Fat cows sold to £1,140 for a Simmental at 690 kgs, £1,150 for a Saler at 850 kgs and £1,000 for a Limousin at 570 kgs.
