Loughgall Country Park has scooped the top prize in the prestigious Netmums Outdoor Play Awards, winning Best Outdoor Play Area in Northern Ireland.
Loughgall Country Park clinched the top spot after being voted for by members of Britain’s biggest parenting site Netmums.com.
The park offers an extensive play area, it enables young people to play in a safe and exciting environment. The adjoining junior adventure trail gives children the opportunity to develop coordination, balance, agility, athleticism and stamina. There is also a multi-use games area which caters for tennis, basketball and football.
Robert Turner, Lord Mayor of Armagh City and District, said: “I am delighted Loughgall Country Park won this award, it is the perfect environment for letting kids run free and enjoy the great outdoors. I hope the park will welcome even more families after being recognised by Netmums as the area’s best outdoor play attraction.”
Recent studies have found modern kids spend only ten per cent of their time playing outdoors, four times less than their parents’ generation but parenting experts are calling for youngsters to spend much more time outside.
Over 1.7 million Mums, Dads and child carers who are registered Netmums members and were eligible to cast their votes in the awards, to find the UK’s best loved outdoor attractions.
Netmums.com local editor Jill Harland said, ‘We are so lucky Northern Ireland has lots of fantastic outdoor venues to choose from, but Mums and Dads rated Loughgall Country Park as somewhere extra special. It’s fantastic to know children can enjoy the great outdoors safely and happily at such a lovely venue.”
Loughgall Country Park is set in a 188 hectare estate of open farmland and orchard, which also includes, an 18 hole golf course, a 37 acre coarse fishing lake with 100 disable access stands, walking and cycling routes, eco trails, trim trails and a soccer pitch.
