Long-overdue improvement works to the footpaths in Loughgall village – following years of lobbying – have finally got underway.
The essential repairs are being carried out by the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) in collaboration with the local council. The scheme includes upgrades to improve pedestrian safety and the visual appeal of the area.
Key elements of the current works include: Footpath repairs to enhance safety and accessibility; granite surfacing and new planters to improve aesthetics; and DfI assessments of surrounding defects for future remedial action.
Commenting on the works, Carla Lockhart MP said: “After years of frustration and concern over the poor state of the footpaths in Loughgall, I am absolutely delighted to see this long-awaited work finally get underway. The village deserves safe, attractive infrastructure that reflects its unique character and charm.
“This is a hugely welcome step forward and a direct result of ongoing pressure from local voices and the tireless efforts of the Loughgall District Improvement Association, who continue to work with passion and purpose for their community.
“While today marks important progress, this is just the beginning. I remain fully committed to campaigning for a full Village Regeneration Plan, including a comprehensive public realm scheme that will see all footpaths renewed in granite and further improvements delivered for the people of Loughgall.
“A sincere thank you to the DfI and the Council for listening and taking action, and to everyone locally who continues to work with me in driving forward change that truly matters to our rural villages.”
