A Loughgall man has been handed a seven-month prison sentence for theft and failing to complete a community service order.
Christopher Reid, 31, from Lurgan Cott Lane, appeared via video link at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
Court heard that on December 23, last year a man appeared at Lurgan police station reporting his wallet, containing between £60 and £100, had been stolen from the Celtic Supporters’ Club in the town.
The defendant matched the description given by both the victim and witnesses.
In a police search of Reid’s home the wallet was found in a wardrobe.
Defence counsel stated that this was one of the defendant’s “longest periods that he had kept out of trouble”.
Reid pleaded guilty to both charges of theft and not completing his community service.
Court heard that the defendant had finished just seven of his 60 hours.
The defence explained that this was because Reid had gained employment at this time and had simply “buried his head in the sand” instead of giving up hours.
Deputy District Judge Austin Kennedy revoked Reid’s community service order and sentenced him to seven months in custody.
