A budding artist from Co Armagh is having her work exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts in London this summer.
Iris Parker, aged nine, has been selected from more than 23,000 young hopefuls to appear in the Royal’s Academy’s Young Artists’ Summer Show.
Her artwork, entitled A Few Bits, will be displayed at the iconic building on Piccadilly from July 15 to August 10. It will also feature in the exhibition’s digital gallery on the Royal Academy’s website.
Iris, from Loughgall, said: “I was really proud when I found out my picture had been chosen. It’s amazing because it’s the first time I’ve entered an art competition.”
Her work was inspired by her trips to big cities. She used collage, pencil drawing and watercolours.
“I love the buildings, patterns and colours you see in cities. I wanted to use them in my art,” added Iris.
The Royal Academy of Arts was founded in 1768, with its annual summer exhibition starting the following year.
In 2019, it launched the Young Artists’ Summer Show, an open art competition running along similar lines to the main summer exhibition. Children aged between four and 18 studying in the UK are invited to enter.
