A vehicle found burned out in Lurgan on Sunday evening had been stolen earlier the same day in the Dromore area, police have confirmed.
Emergency services were called to the blaze in the Kilwilke area, close to the Clann Eireann GAA pitch, shortly after 9pm.
A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) said firefighters were tasked to a fire at Deramore Drive, Lurgan, at 9.08pm.
“One appliance from Lurgan Fire Station attended the incident,” the spokesperson said. “Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.
“The cause of the fire is believed to be deliberate ignition and the incident was dealt with by 9.36pm.”
Police have since confirmed that the car had been reported stolen earlier on Sunday.
A PSNI spokesperson said: “The car was reported stolen in the Dromore area and was subsequently set alight in the Ennis Green area of Lurgan on Sunday night, January 25.”
Detectives have launched an investigation and are appealing for information.
“Anyone with information that could assist police enquiries should call 101, quoting reference 379 25/01/26, or submit information online via the PSNI website,” the spokesperson added. “The charity Crimestoppers can also be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online.”
