Fifteen apartments for “social rented housing” could be constructed on the site of a former car wash on a busy main street in Lurgan, if plans are approved.
The application was submitted to Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council – in relation to lands adjacent and 10 metres to the rear and north east of 59 William Street – in the name of Padraig Drayne of Donaghmore-based Sandale Developments Limited.
The site sits just off the side and to the rear of the carpark at an existing Spar shop.
It seeks permission to construct a three storey apartment block consisting of 15 apartments comprised of 12 two-bedroom units and three one-bedroom units.
There is also provision within the proposals for a bin compound, parking area and associated site works across the 1.1 hectare area.
The application describes the proposed units as being provided for “social rented housing”.
Drawings indicate that each apartment would be self contained with open plan kitchen and living areas, bedrooms and bathrooms.
Each would also benefit from a private 3.6 sqm balcony.
There would be an internal stairwell and hallway servicing each floor with an elevator also provided for accessibility.
On the first and second floors a “wheelchair accessible” apartment would be provided with wider doorways and space for manoeuvring. Both also boast a power socket for a battery powered wheelchair and potential for future overhead hoists in the bathrooms for assist to easy chair.
The wheelchair accessible apartments comprise a larger private balcony of 7 sqm.
If approved, the parking spaces on site would be increased from six to eleven spaces to accommodate residents within the complex.
Externally, the building would be finished in a light coloured dry pebble dash rendered wall with dark grey metal balustrade and cladding balcony fascia.
The proposals will be advertised shortly.
