The construction of fifteen new homes in north Lurgan has been widely welcomed in the area.
SDLP Upper Bann MLA Dolores Kelly says she is delighted to see the social housing scheme, just off Lake Street adjacent to Kilwilkie, progress.
“The SDLP have been at the forefront of efforts to deliver more social housing in the Lurgan area,” said Mrs Kelly.
“Given our history and origins particular in the provision of social housing, I am very pleased to see that after four years our efforts have come to fruition.
“We are pleased to have successfully lobbied for and facilitated a partnership between Boconnell Properties and South Ulster Housing Association.
“The provision of eight five persons three-bed houses, six four persons three-bed houses and one five persons three-bed housing with wheelchair access is very much welcome and will go a little way in meeting the increasing demand for social and affordable housing in north Lurgan.”
Mrs Kelly praised Boconnell Properties, who have “a proven track record of building good quality homes” as well as the South Ulster Housing Association who are “a well-respected housing provider in the council area”.
SDLP Lurgan Representative Ciaran Toman added: “North Lurgan has the highest waiting list in the Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon District with 127 units required to meet housing need.
“It is very encouraging to see this scheme progressing and I look forward to working alongside party colleagues in our efforts to deliver more social housing.”
