In a “small but important win”, resurfacing works have commenced in Waringstown after a period of sustained lobbying on behalf of local residents.
Works performed by The Department for Infrastructure (DfI) began on a stretch of Mill Hill on Monday July 28 and are expected to be completed by Friday August 1.
To facilitate resurfacing, daily road closures are being implemented from 9.30am to 4.30pm.
As the MP responsible for campaigning for the works, Upper Bann MP, Carla Lockhart has shared her delight at the department’s investment, commenting: “After months of consistent lobbying and pressure, I am delighted that the Department for Infrastructure is finally investing in this much-needed resurfacing project along Mill Hill in Waringstown.
“This has been a long-running issue that I’ve raised repeatedly, and I’m pleased to see tangible action being taken.
“It may seem like a small stretch of road, but for the people who live and travel here daily, this improvement makes a real difference.
“I firmly believe that good governance starts with getting the basics right and that means fixing our roads. This is a small but important win for Upper Bann, and I will continue to push for similar investment right across our constituency.
“Thank you to all the residents and local businesses who supported the campaign and helped keep the pressure on. Let’s keep working together for real delivery.”
Diversions ware being clearly signposted, with traffic rerouted via:
• B0002 Dromore Road
• A0003 Belfast Road
• A0003 Avenue Road
• A0026 Flush Place
• A0026 Banbridge Road
• A0026 Waringstown Road
• A0026 Main Street
The anticipated delay for road users is expected to be minimal, less than five minutes.
MP Lockhart has also been instrumental – alongside cooperation from Cllr Mark Baxter and Cllr Paul Greenfield – in pushing for a solution to slippery pathways in the rural County Armagh town that had resulted in multiple trips and falls.
In February the MP announced that progress is being made, with “discussions ongoing to find a long-term fix.”
Further updates on the status of the footpaths will be provided once available.
