Judge warns teenager he must now disclose drug conviction on UCAS application

Craigavon-Courthouse

A Lurgan teenager who had hopes of going to university has been told he must disclose his conviction on any future application.

Adam O’Connor, 19, of Allenhill Park, pleaded guilty to possession of class B at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

Defence counsel stated: “This is a young man who did not quite make it into university this year and has hopes for next time around”.

He added: “On this occasion, he was caught experimenting with drugs, which he now knows will cause him a lot of hassle”.

District Judge Bernie Kelly commented: “He is aware that on his UCAS application he will have to inform them that he does have a conviction”.

She added: “It could really come down to that if one person does have a clear record and he doesn’t”.

O’Connor was ordered to pay a fine of £300, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within 12 weeks.
