A Lurgan man who assaulted police after being escorted from a house party has been ordered to pay a fine of £300.
The 23-year-old’s solicitor told court the defendant “very much regretted” his actions on this occasion where he “got involved in someone else’s argument”.
Ciaran McComb, of Carrickvale Manor, pleaded guilty to assault on police, resisting police and disorderly behaviour at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
Prosecution outlined that on June 6, at 2.35am, police were called to a disturbance at an address in Dollingstown.
Upon arrival, officers spoke to the occupant who asked for people to be removed from their property.
Police escorted this defendant out onto the street, where he became disorderly, shouting at officers who advised him to move on.
As police escorted another male to their vehicle, McComb came towards them swinging his arms with closed fists.
The defendant was restrained and taken to the ground. He struggled and pulled two officers to the ground during his arrest.
Defence solicitor Gabriel Ingram stated that this was a plea at the first opportunity and that his client appeared before the court with no record.
He explained: “The background is that he had been drinking with his uncle. Far too much drink was taken and they had then gone to a house party.
“The focus of police was on his uncle and Mr McComb stupidly decided that he would be something of a hero.”
Mr Ingram added that the defendant “very much regretted” his actions on this occasion where he “got involved in someone else’s argument”.
District Judge Bernie Kelly ordered that McComb pay a fine of £300, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within 16 weeks.
