A man who helped another person take his sister’s car without permission has been handed a £500 fine.
The district judge told the 23-year-old: “With brothers like you who needs enemies?”
Thomas McIlduff, 23, of Charlestown Road, Derrytrasna, pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting the taking of a vehicle without the owner’s consent at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
It was heard that on May 5, police were contacted by the defendant’s sister who reported that her car had been taken from the car park outside her work.
McIlduff was connected to the offence as he had been seen taking another person to the car park.
During interview, the defendant accepted his involvement and having discussions with another male about borrowing the vehicle.
He said it was their intention to leave the car back without his sister realising.
District Judge Bernie Kelly stated: “It’s okay to steal your sister’s car, I take it she is not particularly friendly with you at the moment.”
McIlduff, who represented himself, replied: “I don’t know, I’m not allowed to talk to her.”
District Judge Kelly commented: “With brothers like you who needs enemies.”
The defendant was ordered to pay a fine of £500, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within four weeks.
