A Lurgan man who swore at police as they attended an area for an unrelated matter has been given a chance to work with probation.
Donald Fegan, 26, of Lurgan Tarry, pleaded guilty to disorderly behaviour at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
Court heard that on September 8, at around 7pm, police attended Church Place in Lurgan for an unrelated matter.
As officers approached the defendant shouted at them: “You are not f****** detaining me.”
He was subsequently arrested for disorderly behaviour.
Defence solicitor Philip Reid stated: “He does have a relevant record but this offence predated the imposition of a probation order and a suspended sentence.
“This is a young man who has been in and out of work but drink has been his main issue.”
He said: “He has committed a number of public order offences and drink had always been a factor.
“He is working with probation and is due to begin to tackle his alcohol problem with their help.”
Court heard that resident District Judge Bernie Kelly had deferred sentencing in another matter involving Fegan to allow him to work with probation and find employment.
Deputy District Judge Liam McStay commented that he wished to stay in line with the resident district judge.
The case was deferred until September 25 for sentencing.
