A Lurgan pizza delivery driver who assaulted his duty manager over a pay dispute has been fined £300.
Court heard the 30-year-old, who was a driver for Domino’s Pizza, thought he was being informed he would not be paid when, in fact, he was being told he would not receive additional payment as he had not plugged in the vehicle’s light.
Viktor Topchiev, of Princes Street, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
Court heard that on November 16, police received a report from a male at Domino’s Pizza who claimed he had been assaulted by a fellow member of staff.
Officers spoke to the injured party, who was a duty manager, and he said he had been attacked by a delivery driver following a verbal altercation.
Police observed the injured party had bleeding nostrils, cuts to the face and two scrapes on his neck.
When interviewed, Topchiev accepted that he had assaulted the injured party following a verbal altercation.
Defence solicitor Harry McCourt stated: “This is a man with no record, he has lived for 12 years in Northern Ireland. This was his second job but he has become unemployed due to his health.
“This arose over a dispute. He had not plugged in his light on the Domino’s vehicle. He had thought the manager was telling him he would not get paid but, in fact, it was that he would not receive the extra payment for having the light on.”
Topchiev was ordered to pay a fine of £300, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within 12 weeks.
