ROADS Minister Danny Kennedy has announced plans to carry out £1.27 million resurfacing and road improvements scheme on the Armagh to Monaghan Road.
The works will see a stretch of almost 2.5km of road resurfaced, improvements to the alignment along with the provision of a right turn lane at Fernaloy Road junction.
In addition, there will be a significant off line realignment of the existing road and provision of a right turning lane at the Drumacanver Road junction.
Minister Kennedy said: “This is a significant investment for this section of the A3 Armagh to Monaghan Road, which is an extremely important route for businesses and local road users. The amalgamation of funding from both the local transportation and safety measures and trunk road maintenance budgets has created the opportunity to deliver such a major scheme in this area.
“Carrying out these works in this way will maximise value for money and minimise the overall impact on road users. Completion of the works will result in improved safety and traffic progression as well as extending the pavement life on this key route.”
Works are due to start in late August and last for for 12 weeks.
In order to ensure the safety of the public and site personnel, a road closure will be in operation for nine weeks. Diversions will be in operation via the Keady and Castleblaney for Monaghan-bound traffic and via the Coolkill and Killylea Roads for Armagh-bound traffic.
