POLICE are appealing for information following an incident in Keady where a man was ambushed and his house burgled.
The incident occurred at approximately 8.15pm in Madden Row where four males forced the man to allow them entry to his house before making off with a sum of money.
Condemning the incident, SDLP Councillor Thomas O’Hanlon described the men as “callous thugs” and urged the public to be vigilant against such incidents.
“They lay in wait for their victim to return to his home and then approached him. Thankfully he wasn’t physically hurt but was obviously shaken by the ordeal,” he said.
“I would urge anyone who saw anything suspicious in and around the house to come forward immediately.”
The burglars were travelling in a dark saloon car, which was parked nearby, were wearing dark jackets and baseball caps and spoke with southern accents.
Cllr O’Hanlon said he has spoken to the victim and the police regarding the incident and hopes those involved will be brought to justice.
“This man was fit to fend for himself but it doesn’t even bare thinking about if these thugs had targeted an elderly or frail resident.
“I would appeal for people to be extra vigilant in the time ahead,” he added.
