Man rescued after car overturns and ends up in water

A man had to be rescued from a car after the vehicle left the road and landed on its roof in water today.

Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service received a report of the accident, which involved only one vehicle, shortly before 2am today (Monday).

Personnel from two stations – Newry and Newtownhamilton – were tasked to the scene.

Fire EngineThere they found a 35-year-old man trapped in the car which had overturned and came to land in water.

It happened on the Markethill Road in Newtownhamilton.

Firefighters had to use manual handling techniques to free the man.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service also attended and the man was assessed by personnel at the scene.

Fortunately, he did not sustain serious injuries and did not require hospital admission.
