In the run-up to Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee, Markethill Primary School held a Platinum Jubilee Party for the children and their parents, with the celebrations marked by the planting of a silver birch tree by two former principals.
The children at Markethill Primary enjoyed a celebratory lunch, followed by a fun afternoon with their parents and friends to mark the special event.
There were plenty of stalls and activities to keep everyone occupied, with nail-painting, crafts, a photo-booth, bouncy castles and an inflatable assault course.
There was also ice-cream, teas and sweet treats available, alongside a performance from a group of Scottish dancers.
Children from each class were able to show off their handiwork for a Jubilee Crown competition, and an overall winner was crowned.
The day was complete with the planting of a silver birch tree by Mrs Megaw and Mr Richardson, former principals of the school, to mark the royal anniversary. The tree was kindly provided by Markethill District LOL No. 10.
The festivities continued that Friday, when the school hosted a ‘Fashion Through the Decades Day’, when staff and the children came to school in period dress, based on a decade of their choosing from the 1950s to the present day.
