Markethill Primary School has been granted permission to extend its provision for pupils with special educational needs.
Permission was sought from Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council by the Education Authority back in April to construct a single, two-classroom modular building on school grounds.
The area outlined to accommodate the structure lies within the school’s fenced grounds, adjacent to the car park and community play park.
Once constructed, the building will be purpose-built to accommodate children within the school community with special educational needs.
The two classrooms will be split, with access available from the front of the building leading into a lobby.
Leading off from the lobby will be a cleaner’s area and laundry room, hygiene room, sensory room, staff toilet, staff base and doors to each of the two classrooms.
Both classrooms will comprise separate breakout areas and pupil toilet facilities and in-classroom sinks set at the appropriate height for pupil age.
Externally, each classroom will benefit from covered play areas, topped with “soft pour” play surface and fenced for security.
Permission was granted for the development by Council at the end of August and it is understood that works will commence shortly.
