Darts Competition organised in honour of Markethill schoolboy (10) who beat neuroblastoma

A charity darts competition is being held in Markethill to celebrate a ten-year-old member of the community who has “ahead of all adds” beaten cancer.

Organised by the Markethill Festival Committee, the darts competition is being held in recognition of little Tom Brown’s emotional journey and seeks to raise vital funds for the Cancer Fund for Children’s Armagh Support Group.

The young man was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma after being transferred to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children at just three weeks old.

Tom’s family said: “Now, at ten, Tom is everything one might expect of a healthy, happy boy – and more.

“He plays football and rugby with his friends, has dreams for the future and delights in being a kid.

“He has follow up appointments and occasional scans, but otherwise, the spectre of cancer has receded.

“Sometimes I look at him and remember those first weeks and it just feels miraculous that he’s here, thriving, laughing, growing.”

The committee say the family now share Tom’s story within the community, with local charities and at awareness events. They hope it brings comfort to others facing similar battles and shines a light on the importance of research into childhood cancers like neuroblastoma.

The darts competition has been organised for November 15 at 3pm in Victoria Bar.

Everyone is welcome to attend. Entry is priced at £15 per person with all proceeds for Cancer Fund for Children.

There is a first prize of £200, a second prize of £100 and more categories.

Those interested in participating are advised to contact Barry on 07885097127 for more information.
