Former police station and mart site in Markethill up for sale

The former police station and mart site in the centre of Markethill is up for sale.

Just seven months ago, the owners of the site, at 2-8 Mowhan Road, were granted permission to redevelop the area into a ‘mini-shopping village’ and apartments.

However, the site is now up for sale, with the added attraction of full planning permission – should any prospective buyers share the same vision for the town as its current owners, Richard Hunter and Alison Strong – former proprietors of JD Hunter’s supermarket.

The site was cleared a number of years ago, with the mart last active in October 2013. The now largely vacant site stretches to close to 28,000 sq ft.

The plans were well-received in the town, having gone through the entire process without a single objection.

Indeed, one letter of support emerged, which stated: “The current site is an eyesore, and the proposed redevelopment is in keeping with the regeneration of Markethill.”

The site has now gone on the market, and CPS Property in Armagh are seeking expressions of interest for “a unique and highly sought-after development opportunity.”

The estate agent adds: “This prime site comes with full planning approval for a dynamic mixed-use development, offering incredible potential in a growing area.”

The proposed plans include: 9 modern retail units; 1 café/retail unit, ideal for a trendy eatery or boutique; 1 large retail warehouse unit; 11 contemporary apartments; landscaping, ample car parking, and supporting infrastructure.

They add: “This is your chance to create something special in a thriving community. The owners are open to all aspects of shared goals for this prime development site.”
