Recent storms – Isha and Jocelyn – had a huge impact on Gosford Forest Park, felling many trees over the course of 72 hours.
Matures trees throughout the forest fell victim to the high winds; the park, as a result, remained closed for a number of days.
And while the gates have since re-opened the mountain bike trails remain closed to the public as clean-up work continues.
It could be a month before all the trails are opened to the public again.
TUV councillor Keith Ratcliffe paid those tasked with the clear-up a visit last week to see first-hand the scale of the operation.
“I had the opportunity to visit Gosford Forest Park and view the devastation caused by the recent storms,” he said.
“I also met with the hard working Council staff who have cleared a lot of trees and have been working extremely hard to get the park opened for tomorrow.
“Unfortunately the MTB Trails won’t be open as there is still a lot of trees and debris. I am going to request additional help from Council officers to get the full park open as soon as possible.”
Councillor Ratcliffe was delighted with the effort of Council staff who have “really worked their socks off” in recent days.
