A Markethill man has been disqualified for six months for driving without insurance.
Court heard the 29-year-old did have a policy, but this was voided after he was found to be a learner without an accompanying qualified driver.
Koycho Koychev, of Dean Swift Mews, pleaded guilty to being an unaccompanied learner driver and using a vehicle without insurance at Armagh Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
Court heard police observed a vehicle travelling on the Portadown Road on May 1 at around 6.15am which was displaying L plates but only had one occupant.
Officers spoke to the driver who identified himself as the defendant.
Koychev produced a provisional licence to police and brought a policy of insurance to them seven days later.
Officers contacted the insurance company who stated that they were not at risk as the defendant was unaccompanied.
Koychev, who represented himself in court, said he had been giving his cousin a lift to work on that morning.
He added that his cousin would have been fired if he was not in work on time.
The defendant was disqualified from driving for six months and ordered to pay a fine of £250, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within 26 weeks.
