A Markethill pensioner who admitted stealing almost £9,000 from the Orange Order has been warned she’s facing jail time.
On Tuesday at Newry Crown Court, 72-year-old Josephine Trimble entered guilty pleas to the two charges against her.
Appearing via videolink from her solicitors office Trimble, from Keady Street in Markethill, admitted fraud by abuse of position in that she allegedly abused her power as treasurer of the Anne Sinton Memorial WLOL 105 in Markethill and the theft of £8893.83, committed between 1 January 1993 and 2 January 2019.
Adjourning passing sentence until November 3, by which time a probation pre-sentence report will have been prepared, and freeing Trimble on bail in the mean time, Judge Gordon Kerr QC warned that given the pleas and nature of the offences, “the court will be actively considering a custodial sentence so she should prepare herself for that.”
