Motorcyclist dies after collision with tractor

Road remains closed after latest tragedy

A motorcyclist in his 20s has died following a collision near Gilford.

The collision, involving the motorcycle and a tractor, occurred on the Ballymcanallen Road at around 1.25pm this afternoon.

The man who died in the collision has been named by police.

He was 21-year-old James Campbell, who was from the Gilford area.

Inspector Gregory Beckett is appealing for witnesses.

“We would like to hear from anyone who was travelling on the Ballymacanallen Road at around 1.20pm or who witnessed the collision,” he said.

“Please call 101, quoting reference 581 19/04/17.”

Ulster Unionist Councillor for the area, Cllr Ian Burns, has offered his sympathies to the family of the young man who died.

He said: “As news had filtered through that there has been another death on our roads today, my first thoughts are with the family of this young man as they have to come to terms with this tragedy.”

“I would urge anyone with any information about this collision to contact PSNI.”
