A fantastic new free outdoor gym has been launched at Kinnego Marina.
Craigavon Borough Council, in partnership with the Public Health Agency, has unveiled the new facility, a stylish 10 station gym providing a full range of equipment for fitness activity in the great outdoors.
It is accessible to adults of all ages and abilities, breaks down the barriers to physical activity and also acts as a gateway to improving health.
At the launch of the new outdoor gym, Mayor Councillor Colin McCusker said: “The project complements and adds to the visitor experience at Kinnego Marina – you couldn’t ask for better views when exercising, and best of all, it is completely free!”
Gerry Bleakney, Head of Health and Social Wellbeing Improvement with the PHA in the southern area, said: “Participation in physical activity, sport and exercise is great for both body and mind. It helps maintain a healthy weight, protect against heart disease, some cancers, type 2 diabetes and improve our mental health by reducing anxiety.
“The outdoor gym is a great way to get active. They are free, easy to use and easily accessible on the doorstep of our local communities”
Kinnego Marina is home to 190 boats on the edge of Lough Neagh and has magnificent views of the distant Tyrone and Antrim hills. Visitors can take part in a wide range of activities and courses offered by the centre. Visit www.craigavonactivity.org or call 028 3832 7573 for more information.
