Boy racer problem on Old Dublin Road ‘gone on for too long’

Liz Kimmins and Cathal King

Residents are at their wits’ end over the boy racer issue which has plagued the Old Dublin Road in south Armagh for years.

While previous calls for action have fallen short of an actual resolution, there are not calls for co-operation on both sides of the border to put a stop to the long-running diffing saga.

Sinn Féin MLA, Liz Kimmins, has said that cooperation between police both north and south as well as from Department for Infrastructure is key.

The Newry and Armagh MLA said: “Sinn Féin have been working to tackle this serious problem for many years, and more recently, Cllr Cathal King and I recently met onsite with both PSNI and DfI to determine what else can be done to address this once and for all.

“This anti-social behaviour has gone on for too long, and it’s vital that a long term solution is found as soon as possible.

“I am pleased that following our meeting with representatives from PSNI and DFI, commitments were given to putting in place physical measures which will hopefully deter future activity of this nature.

“Local residents have been plagued by these issues for many years and Sinn Féin is determined to secure a solution that ensures they can live peacefully and that our local community is kept safe for all.”
