A new £350,000 road improvement scheme for the A27 Newry Road at Poyntzpass is to begin next week.
Infrastructure Minister John O’Dowd has announced that a £350,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme will commence on Monday, March 25.
The resurfacing will extend for approximately 1,300 metres north of the junction with the Demoan Road to north of the junction with the Gambles Road.
To facilitate the works, it will be necessary to implement a road closure (Monday to Friday) between 9am until 6pm from Monday, March 25 until Friday, April 12.
This closure will not be in place from March 30 to April 2 for the Easter break.
The dates and duration of the road closures will be dependent on the progress of the scheme and on favourable weather conditions.
To help ensure the safety of road users and road workers the public is asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions and follow the signed diversionary route via B3 Markethill Road, B3 Moyrourkan Road, B3 Tandragee Road, A28 Gosford Road, A27 Newry Road and A28 Armagh Road.
The Department has programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience however road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works and are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.
Subject to favourable weather conditions, the works will be substantially complete by Friday, April 12, however the Department will keep the public informed of any change.
