Detectives investigating the murder of a police officer in Newry more than 30 years ago have made an arrest.
Constable Colleen McMurray was murdered in a mortar attack in Newry in 1992. Another police officer suffered life-changing injuries.
Constable McMurray was in a police car which was hit by a mortar bomb as it travelled along Merchants Quay beside the canal in Newry on the night on March 27, 1992.
She was taken to hospital but died later.
Constable McMurray and her colleague were returning to Corry Square Police Station after providing security support to officers entering the town for a change of shift, while also providing routine community policing.
It was standard operational practice at the time for RUC officers to provide this security support for their colleagues.
Today (Wednesday) a 59-year-old man was arrested under the Terrorism Act at Birmingham Airport, with the assistance of Counter Terrorism Policing West Midlands, and will be transported to Northern Ireland for questioning in the Serious Crime Suite at Musgrave Police Station.
