‘Disgusting’ racist material pasted inside Daisy Hill Hospital ‘intended to intimidate staff’

“The mentality of the idiot responsible is depressingly vile considering the international make-up of medical staff within Daisy Hill. The perpetrator was likely going to be treated themselves by the very same staff members they sought to racially intimidate"

The actions of those who placed racist materials on display inside Daisy Hill Hospital have been branded “idiotic”.

And a member of the republican party Saoradh stepped in to remove the “disgusting material” from public view.

The discovery came on Thursday morning, when a Saoradh member was standing in the lift and noticed a racist display on the wall.

Disturbingly, several members of medical staff of various nationalities were in the lift at the same time and witnessed what was described as “vile material”.

The Saoradh member ripped the sticker from the wall and disposed of it, much to the appreciation of the staff members.

Slamming the incident, Saoradh member, Anthony Coyle, said: “There is no place for racist material anywhere in society let alone a hospital setting.

“The mentality of the idiot responsible is depressingly vile considering the international make-up of medical staff within Daisy Hill.

“The perpetrator was likely going to be treated themselves by the very same staff members they sought to racially intimidate.

“Daisy Hill has staff from all over the world who help treat people on a daily basis, including saving lives.

“This runs in stark contrast to the neanderthals who spout hate-filled racist and fascist rhetoric.

“It’s clear that placing this vile message inside a hospital building was done for one reason and one reason only – to intimidate.

“Daisy Hill staff from all backgrounds have for many years provided a vital, and life-saving, service for the many thousands of people in Newry and the surrounding area.

“Numerous times in the past few years Saoradh activists have stood on streets and picket lines for striking Daisy Hill workers of all nationalities and also to demand the return of other vital services that had been stripped away.

“We have also patrolled hospital grounds to protect and defend medical professionals from being attacked in the past.

“We will also defend them from the scourge of racism.”
