A man who is alleged to have damaged an oil tank and a van belonging to the same individual will face Crown Court proceedings next month.
The 45-year-old appeared at Newry Magistrates’ Court for the purposes of a preliminary enquiry (PE), the legal process during which a case is referred to the higher court.
Robert Bryan Chambers, of Rooney Park in Kilkeel, is charged with two counts of criminal damage.
As the charges were read, it was heard that the defendant is alleged to have committed both of these offences on October 27, of last year.
Chambers is accused of destroying an oil tank and damaging a Ford Transit van belonging to the same male.
Appearing in court, the defendant made no objection to the holding of a preliminary enquiry.
Prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.
Defence barrister Kevin O’Hare made no contrary submissions.
District Judge Eamonn King said that he was satisfied there was a prima facie case to answer.
The defendant was released on continuing bail to appear before Newry Crown Court on June 24 for arraignment.
