A man accused of taking a vehicle without consent and stealing £4,000 in cash is to face Crown Court proceedings later this year.

Patrick Joseph Mongan, 33, of White Rise, Dunmurry, appeared charged with aggravated taking and causing damage to a vehicle, along with two counts of theft at Newry Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Standing in the dock, the defendant confirmed he understood the three charges against him.

It was heard that the offences were alleged to have taken place on August 13, 2018.

Mongan is accused of stealing £4,000 in cash and tools to an unknown value.

Prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.

Defence counsel made no contrary submissions.

District Judge Eamonn King stated: “I am satisfied that is so.”

Mongan was released on bail to appear before Newry Crown Court on December 5 for arraignment.
