A Warrenpoint man who told his mother to “f*** off” and police to “go get all the drug dealers smoking heroin” has been ordered to pay a fine of £250.

Sentencing the 21-year-old, the district judge commented that he needed to “calm down and grow up”.

James Crooks, of Iveagh Avenue, pleaded guilty to one count of disorderly behaviour at Newry Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Prosecution outlined that on March 7, at 2am, police received a report regarding the defendant who was intoxicated and disorderly at an address in Warrenpoint,

Upon arrival, Crooks was observed outside the address on Mourne View, he approached officers shouting: “What the f*** are you going to do? Go get all the drug dealers smoking heroin.”

The defendant was warned about his behaviour in a residential area, but he continued telling both police and his mother to “f*** off”.

Crooks was arrested and placed in the rear of a police vehicle. Around 10 minutes later he had calmed down and apologised about his behaviour.

Defence barrister Justin Burns informed court that it was the defendant’s mother who had called police over concerns for his own welfare.

He added that “to his credit” Crooks calmed down a short time after his arrest.

District Judge Eamon King commented that the defendant needed to “calm down and grow up” as he ordered him to pay a fine of £250, along with the offender’s levy of £15.
