A man who pleaded guilty to a raft of charges including possession of a kitchen knife with intent and assault on police has been remanded in custody as he looks to contest a charge of stealing hot food from a store in Newry.
While the facts of the case were not outlined during Wednesday’s brief hearing at Newry Magistrates, the court heard the nine charges – including the alleged theft – were all committed on December 14, last year.
Sean Anthony Taylor, of Bunker Hill, pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon (kitchen knife) with intent to commit an indictable offence, common assault, disorderly behaviour (at Daisy Hill Hospital), two counts of criminal damage, two counts of assault on police and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.
However, he denies stealing hot food from Dunnes in Newry.
Despite accepting his guilt on the eight more serious charges, the 35-year-old will have to await the outcome of his contest before learning his fate.
His case was adjourned for two weeks, until March 6, where a date will be fixed for contest.
