The new paediatric unit at Daisy Hill Hospital has been described as a “world class” facility.
Justin McNulty visited the new unit and congratulated the Southern Trust for the “vision and commitment”.
“The opening of the new Paediatric ward in Newry is a long time in the planning but it is a remarkable facility for all who will use, visit or work in it,” said Mr McNulty.
“The completion of the new state-of-the-art unit, which is the mirror image of a new facility at Craigavon is a real vote of confidence in Daisy Hill and the staff who work there.
“Hospitals can be daunting for the most of us, but this new environment will make any stay in hospital a much more pleasant experience for the young people being treated here.
“Not only will they be treated in a modern and specialist environment but the medical professionals will have the access to the most modern equipment and services.
He added: “This is a wonderful facility and I want to congratulate the Chief Executive Francis Rice and his team at the Southern Trust for the vision and commitment in making this facility a reality.
“We often point out where the Trust gets things wrong, so it’s important we acknowledge and congratulate them when they deliver a world class state of the art facility such as this.”
