Residents in Newry are being urged to be extra vigilant following a spate of car break-ins in the city this week.
City Sinn Féin councillor Valerie Harte has appealed for caution after a series of incidents took place in the O’Neill Avenue area.
“A number of residents had their possessions stolen from their vehicles,” she explained. “This is completely unacceptable for the community and for those affected.
“The individuals who carried out these anti-community acts have no place within that community.
“I would urge all residents and the wider communities to to be extra cautious and to protect their property and vehicles.”
Urging vigilance, councillor Harte continued: “I would like to remind all residents of the importance of locking your vehicles at night, and ensuring that no valuable items are left on show or unattended..
“I would advise all to be alert to suspicious activity or behaviour to contact the PSNI.”
