A south Armagh man has been remanded into custody after appearing in court accused of the murder of a man who died following a house fire.
Jimmy Thompson, 62, died as a result of smoke inhalation following a tragic blaze, which occurred in the Parkview area of Newry on Friday, May 21,
Gary Anthony Magee, of Parkview in Cloghogue, was charged with arson with intent to danger life and murder at Armagh Magistrates’ Court, sitting at Newry, on Tuesday.
Appearing via videolink from police custody, the 42-year-old confirmed that he understood the charges and was connected to the same by a constable.
Defence solicitor Seamus Duffy made no question to the connection and asked for a short adjournment in the case for a bail application to be launched.
District Judge Bernie Kelly remanded Magee into custody to appear before Newry Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday for a bail application.
