Trailer load of toxic fuel waste dumped at Newry roadside for fifth time this year

'The community does not want these toxins unleashed upon it'

Sinn Féin councillor Roisin Mulgrew

A 40ft trailer containing a large quantity of diesel cubes has been dumped in a lay-by on the Dublin Road, Newry.

Sinn Féin councillor Roisin Mulgrew condemned the incident, saying this was the fifth such occurrence this year.

She said: “This material is poisonous to our environment and those behind this illegal activity have no regard for our community.

“Cleaning up this costs the council and ratepayers huge amounts of money and those behind this dumping must understand the negative impact this has on community development.

“The community does not want these toxins unleashed upon it. It is long past time that those involved in diesel laundering stopped poisoning their country, neighbours and their own families.

“I appeal to anyone who may have seen anything to contact the relevant authorities.”
