A man who was convicted in his absence for driving with excess speed and without a licence has been handed six penalty points.
Court heard the 28-year-old was caught travelling on the A1 at 95mph.
Michael Mathers, of Armagh Road, Newry was convicted in his absence of using a vehicle without insurance, excess speed and no driving licence at Banbridge Magistrates’ Court – sitting at Newry – on Thursday.
It was heard that on March 23, at 1.30pm, the defendant was detected driving a Mercedes on the A1, Dromore, at 95mph.
That is 25mph in excess of the speed limit on that road.
Mathers was cautioned making no comment and he was asked to produce driving documents but stated he did not have them.
The defendant told officers that he had applied for a new licence as his had been damaged.
However, checks by police showed that Mathers did not hold a licence.
This was put to the defendant, who was still under caution, and once more he made no reply.
District Judge Eamonn King stated that the matter had been proved in Mathers’ absence.
The defendant was handed six penalty points and ordered to pay a fine of £475, along with the offender’s levy of £15.
