There have been two further Covid-19 deaths reported in Northern Ireland over the weekend, according to the Department of Health.
The death toll has risen to 577 following the single death on Saturday and the same on Sunday.
The number of new positive cases reported on Monday was 125, which brings the seven day total to 1,014.
To date, the Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough has had 1,188 cases in total with 736 in Newry, Mourne and Down.
There has also been a sharp rise in hospital admissions, with 33 now being treated across sites in Northern Ireland, with five people in Intensive Care Units.
Posting on Twitter, Health Minister Robin Swann described the recent surge in infections as “deeply concerning”.
He said “important decisions to be taken in the days and weeks ahead”.
Earlier today, Sir Patrick Vallance, the government’s chief scientific adviser, warned that the UK could see 50,000 new coronavirus cases a day by mid-October without further action.
He added: “[That] would be expected to lead to about 200 deaths per day” a month after that.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson is epected to make a statement in the House of Commons on Tuesday.
