Police in Armagh are appealing for information following the theft of a tractor and low loader from Ballycrummy Road on Saturday afternoon, January 11.
Some time between 4pm and 4.30pm, a 2005 blue New Holland tractor and NC Engineering Construction trailer were taken from the side of the road. The tractor has two broken wing mirrors and a latch broken off the lift arm.
Police say they have increased patrols in rural areas throughout Armagh and are appealing to anyone who has information in relation to this incident to contact them on 0845 600 8000.
In another incident within the county, an 18-year-old man was arrested after attempting to steal a tractor from the Moy Road area of Craigavon yesterday (Sunday) morning, January 12.
He has been charged to appear before Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on February 7.
As is normal procedure, the charge will be reviewed by the PPS.
Tackling rural crime is a priority for police across E District and Armagh Area Commander, Chief Inspector Joe McMinn, would like to reassure the community that police have increased patrols and visibility in rural areas to help prevent and detect this type of crime.
Chief Inspector McMinn said: “We understand the frustrations of the rural community and we have been working with them over the last year as part of our Farmwatch programme.
“We have visited local marts and the homes of local farmers to provide advice on making their premises and machinery secure and have also provided free trailer marking.
“We are encouraging the community to work with us and support us in our investigations. We cannot base our investigations on speculation or rumour but need facts, information and evidence to shape our operations and target our resources most effectively.
“The safety of the public is our first priority and we would encourage anyone with information about thefts of machinery or any other crime to contact police so that we can take action.”
