Police in Portadown are encouraging householders to be vigilant about bogus callers, doorstep selling and rogue traders.
This follows an incident in the local area where a householder was charged an extortionate fee for below standard cleaning work.
Police are currently investigating this incident and do not want anyone else to fall prey to this type of crime.
Constable Sarah Murray, Portadown NPT, said: “Rogue traders and bogus callers depend on the good and trusting nature of their victims. It is really important that you remain vigilant and look out for neighbours and particularly older people in your community. If you notice people or vehicles acting suspiciously note down any important details such as a description or car registration and contact police immediately.

“Everyone should be cautious of unexpected callers at their home. Our advice is simple. Think before you open the door – use your chain and spy hole or look out of the window to see if you recognise them. Do not open the door unless you know the individual. Ask callers for proof of identity. Genuine tradesmen should carry a photographic identification card.
